I have always been fascinated with portraiture and feel that a good, strong portrait should capture the true essence, the spirit of a person . . the sensibility, the strength, the character. Physical likeness is important, of course, but unless the heart and soul of the person is portrayed, it’s not complete, not alive." "However, landscape painting, which should incorporate the same rules stated above, has become a focus for me now, offering more freedom of expression and allowing me to record, in whatever abstraction I wish, our very vulnerable and rapidly vanishing landscape." "All through my life, most of my spare time was spent. enjoying the great, beautiful areas of wilderness; the awesome mountains, lakes, rivers, and streams of the four Northwestern States and Canada. I have such passion for the outdoors and our endangered environment that expressing my feelings about it, and recording it for future generations, seems the most satisfying direction for my artistic endeavors at this time." Presently residing in Vancouver, Washington, Carlene DeLorenzo is a member of Painter’s Showcase, Oregon Society of Artists, and Society of Washington Artists. She has studied Advertising Art at Spokane Falls Community College in Spokane, Washington; Sculpture at Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon; and independent study of Portraiture with Abe Nussbaum, Sacramento, California. In addition to this, she studies at home and travels to attend workshops with well-known artists. Carlene has won numerous awards, including "Best of Show" and "People’s Choice," for her paintings, drawings, and sculpture. She wishes she had started earlier, but raising kids and exploring the great outdoors took precedence.. . UNTIL NOW!
