A Northwest Native - Cynthia Kenworthy-Jones was raised in the backwoods of Fern
Prairie, Washington, running wild exploring the natural world.
She often speaks of the beauty of Clark County in her childhood. Cynthia explored the
bogs and forests with her six brothers and sisters,
Embedded in her memory are the images of light seeping through the thick forests
and evening light shimmering golden on a wetland marsh. This is the Northwest part of
Cynthia’s soul.
She had imagined herself painting proficiently through thirty years of nursing while raising
her children. But, alas, she painted with watercolors as much as time allowed during
those years.
It helps to come from a family of artists. Her Mother was and still is a proficient artist.
Her brother, Bart Kenworthy is a well known NW sculpture and watercolor artist.
Cynthia started oil painting in 2009. She began to study light and reflections obsessively.
One of her goals is to become proficient enough to paint the memories of her childhood
as she remembers them.
She is also slowly working on a fine arts degree from Portland State University and has
also taken many of the art classes Clark College. A fine arts degree is her goal.
Paul Joseph Lucas, artist, has also tutored Cynthia in the fine art of painting light.
Over the years Cynthia has won numerous awards for her paintings including blue
ribbons in the SW Washington Society of watercolor artists and the Milwaukee Art
Festival,
Blue ribbons and best in class at the Clark County fair for her have been received as well
as awards at the Ridgfefield Art Alliance in Ridgefield, WA
